2024 Croatian documentary road trip through former Yugoslavia, following a rare-record hunt and regional crate-digging culture.
Funk YU is a 2024 Croatian documentary directed by Franko Dujmić. The film follows a reluctant vinyl collector on an adventurous road trip across the former Yugoslavia to find the only missing record from his collection - the rare "Ulica Jorgovana / Zlatokosa" single, one of the finest examples of Yugoslav funk. Along the way, he meets a variety of colorful characters and dives deep into the crate-digging culture.
I served as sound recordist, capturing clear dialogue, authentic environmental sounds of the road and locations, and the vibrant atmosphere of vinyl hunting to support the fun, nostalgic and adventurous tone of the film.
Naturalistic and immersive sound design - prioritizing clarity of voices, subtle road and location textures and minimal intervention so that the real stories, music and atmosphere carry the journey.
